To ask the Secretary of State for Energy Security and Net Zero, whether it is his policy to support the building of the Peak Cluster project.

The Peak Cluster project is being developed privately by Peak Cluster Ltd, alongside its industry partners. The project has not been identified as one of the four Carbon Capture, Usage and Storage (CCUS) clusters for support through the government’s CCUS Cluster Sequencing process and is not in receipt of funding from the Department. The Government recognises that CCUS can play an important role in decarbonising hard-to-abate sectors such as cement and lime. However, no decision has been taken on future government support for the Peak Cluster, and further decisions on future CCUS deployment will be taken in due course.

Secretary of State

Secretary of State was originally the title given to the two officials who conducted the Royal Correspondence under Elizabeth I. Now it is the title held by some of the more important Government Ministers, for example the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs.
