To ask the Secretary of State for Transport, whether HM Government has received representations from the Mayor of London on the GLA taking control of suburban rail services (a) inside and (b) outside Greater London.

The Department has received representations from the Mayor of London and Transport for London regarding the potential devolution of Great Northern Inner rail services. These services operate both within Greater London and to destinations beyond the Greater London boundary. The Government continues to engage with the Mayor of London and Transport for London on these proposals.

Secretary of State was originally the title given to the two officials who conducted the Royal Correspondence under Elizabeth I. Now it is the title held by some of the more important Government Ministers, for example the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs.
