To ask the Secretary of State for Science, Innovation and Technology, whether recruitment for the next Information Commissioner has commenced; and if she will publish the expected timetable for an appointment.

DSIT and the ICO have continued to work together on the transition to the Information Commission whilst the independent investigation was taking place. Due to the changes to the regulator’s governance structure, DSIT will be recruiting a Chair of the Information Commission in due course. A timetable will be set out when the campaign is launched.

Secretary of State

Secretary of State was originally the title given to the two officials who conducted the Royal Correspondence under Elizabeth I. Now it is the title held by some of the more important Government Ministers, for example the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs.
