To ask the Secretary of State for Housing, Communities and Local Government, what role combined authorities will play in the administration of Local Government Pension Schemes following unitary restructuring, where the current pension scheme is administered by a county council that is being abolished.

As part of Local Government Reorganisation, some Local Government Pension Scheme funds may need to choose, or form, a new administering authority, if the current administering authority is abolished. The new administering authority will usually be one of the new unitary authorities, or it may be a new Single Purpose Pension Authority. The decision is local, with agreement from the Secretary of State.
The role of strategic authorities is to take the strategic decisions needed to drive growth. Whilst their work should be led by local priorities, the government has been clear that they will play a key role in driving local investment alongside Local Government Pension Scheme asset pools.
