To ask the Secretary of State for Housing, Communities and Local Government, pursuant to the Answer of 27 May 2026 to Question 2010 on Flags: Palestine, and with reference to the Answer of 21 November 2025 to Question 88668 on Flags: Palestine, whether the Palestinian flag has the status of any country's national flag listed in section (a) of his Department's guidance, Flying flags: a plain English guide, published in July 2021.

The United Kingdom formally recognises the State of Palestine as an independent sovereign state. The Palestinian flag is a country’s national flag and would therefore come under category a) of the guidance in question i.e. flags which can be flown without consent of the local planning authority

Secretary of State was originally the title given to the two officials who conducted the Royal Correspondence under Elizabeth I. Now it is the title held by some of the more important Government Ministers, for example the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs.
