To ask the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, with reference to his Department’s press release entitled 20,000 fewer A&E visits a year thanks to single patient record, published on 1 June 2026, what assessment he has made of the compatibility of existing NHS IT systems with the proposed single patient record.

The Single Patient Record (SPR) will build on and connect with existing health and care source systems, such as electronic patient records and shared care records, rather than replacing them. We want to build on the significant work done to date, maximising existing investment and reusing existing National Health Service technology wherever possible.
The SPR programme is exploring the best technical approach to connecting and synchronise data in different systems, to bring together a person's health and social care information in one secure, accessible place for the first time.

Secretary of State was originally the title given to the two officials who conducted the Royal Correspondence under Elizabeth I. Now it is the title held by some of the more important Government Ministers, for example the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs.
