To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department, how many police officers there were in post as (a) full-time equivalents and (b) headcount as at 31 December 2025.

The Home Office publishes Accredited Official Statistics on the size of the police workforce in England and Wales on a biannual basis. Secretary of State was originally the title given to the two officials who conducted the Royal Correspondence under Elizabeth I. Now it is the title held by some of the more important Government Ministers, for example the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs.
