To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department, what estimate she has made of the total amount owed to the Home Office by companies that receive money to house irregular migrants in hotels since 2019; and what discussions she has had with those companies on the transfer of those monies to her Department.

The Home Office is currently conducting an open book audit covering the seven contracts with the three suppliers of Asylum Accommodation and Support Contracts. Following completion of the audit, excess profits will be returned to the Home Office in line with the contracts’ profit share provisions.

Secretary of State was originally the title given to the two officials who conducted the Royal Correspondence under Elizabeth I. Now it is the title held by some of the more important Government Ministers, for example the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs.
