To ask the Secretary of State for Energy Security and Net Zero, with reference to the High Court ruling of 3 May 2024 on the Government's carbon budget delivery plan, if her Department will take steps to tackle issues identified by the High Court in that ruling.

Shadow Minister (Exports)
To ask the Secretary of State for Energy Security and Net Zero, what assessment he has made of the impact of the High Court ruling of 3 May 2024 on the Government's carbon budget delivery plan on the UK's ability to meet its climate commitments under the Paris Agreement.
Justin Tomlinson
Minister of State (Department for Energy Security and Net Zero)
The Government is proud of its record on climate change. The Carbon Budget Delivery Plan remains Government policy and sets out over 300 policies and proposals the Government has in place to reach its carbon budget targets.
The judgment contains no criticism of these detailed plans nor the policies themselves, which will keep the UK on track to meet our international commitments, including the 2030 Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) under the Paris Agreement, and Net Zero by 2050.
Officials are considering the best approach to comply with the court order and Government will publish a new report within 12 months.

Secretary of State was originally the title given to the two officials who conducted the Royal Correspondence under Elizabeth I. Now it is the title held by some of the more important Government Ministers, for example the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs.
