To ask the Minister of State, Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office, what assessment he has made of the accuracy of reports that Russian soldiers have executed Ukrainian prisoners of war in Avdiivka.

We are appalled by the reports of prisoners of war, protected under the Geneva Conventions, being executed in Avdiivka. Summary execution is a war crime. We note that the Prosecutor General of Ukraine has opened an investigation into these allegations. We are committed to hold to account those responsible for committing atrocities in Ukraine. In December 2023, the FCDO announced £3.7 million to support the investigation and prosecution of war crimes committed in Ukraine. This includes funding for the training of Ukrainian prosecutors in the use of open-source intelligence and the expansion of the OPORA War Crimes Documentation Centre in Poland.
