The UK is aware of the World Health Organization (WHO) reporting which has documented a number of attacks against health care facilities in the West Bank since 7 October. The UK is clear that civilian infrastructure including hospitals and medical facilities, shelters and water and sanitation systems must be protected in conflict. All states, including Israel, must exercise their legitimate right to self-defence in accordance with International Humanitarian Law. We continue to engage regularly and closely with Israeli counterparts.

Secretary of State

Secretary of State was originally the title given to the two officials who conducted the Royal Correspondence under Elizabeth I. Now it is the title held by some of the more important Government Ministers, for example the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs.
