Defra officials meet with the Canal and River Trust (C&RT) management formally three times a year to discuss a range of issues, particularly relating to the Government grant. Towpath condition forms a part of the Relevant Standards that the C&RT must achieve annually to access the conditional element of the Government grant. These Relevant Standards are published on the C&RT’s website. However, the specific arrangements on maintenance of towpaths are an operational matter for the C&RT.
