To ask the Secretary of State for Justice, with reference to Government grants statistics 2020 to 2021, published on 31 March 2022, what assessment his Department has made of the effectiveness of the Lawtech grant.

The Lawtech grant funded the establishment of LawtechUK by Tech Nation in November 2019 to help the legal sector overcome legal, regulatory, and cultural barriers to digital transformation. For the financial year 2020 to 2021, a total of £941,000 was awarded to Tech Nation.

An independent impact assessment of LawtechUK conducted in 2022 indicated that the programme has been effective in achieving the objectives of the grant, including by helping to solidify the UK’s position as a leader in lawtech.
