Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office written question – answered on 15 May 2023.
To ask His Majesty's Government when they first became aware that the situation in Sudan had deteriorated to the point that the safety of British citizens was at risk and that they would need assistance to evacuate.
The UK Government has consistently followed political developments in Sudan and initiated a coordinated, cross-government response as soon as violence broke out on 15 April. On 20 April, we launched a "Register Your Presence" service for British nationals and UK passport holders in Sudan. As of 4 May we have evacuated 2,450 people from Sudan - by far the longest and largest operation of any Western nation.
