Home Office written question – answered on 13th March 2023.
To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department, whether her Department has taken steps to investigate the (a) location and (b) identity of the vendors of inflatable boats used for carrying refugees across the English channel.
These crossings remain dangerous, illegal and unnecessary. The Government is determined to stop them, and that is the aim of the new Illegal Migration Bill.
While it would be inappropriate to detail the work being done against those criminal elements, our joint work with France has seen at least 59 Organised Crime Groups connected to these crossings dismantled, and over 500 arrests made, since the foundation of the Joint Intelligence Cell in July 2020.
