To ask His Majesty's Government what assessment they have made of food inflation in supermarkets, given the increased cost of living.

Defra officials have regular discussions with food retailers about a range of issues, including the impact of food price inflation. This rose to 16.4% in October according to ONS data covering all household purchases of food inside and outside of supermarkets. Given sustained pressures, we anticipate food prices continuing to trend upwards in the short term. We are closely monitoring the situation.
