Department for Transport written question – answered at on 22 November 2022.
Louise Haigh
Shadow Secretary of State for Transport
To ask the Secretary of State for Transport, with reference to Taking charge: the electric vehicle infrastructure strategy report published on 25 March 2022, whether amendments to the Transport Planning Practice Guidance relating to chargepoints have been completed.
Jesse Norman
Minister of State (Department for Transport)
The Government’s National Planning Policy Framework is clear that planning applications for development should enable charging of plug-in and other ultra-low emission vehicles in safe, accessible, and convenient locations.
As part of our proposed changes to the planning system, and as committed in the Net Zero Strategy, we intend to review National Planning Policy to make sure it contributes to climate change mitigation and adaptation. As part of this, we will consider any further changes to planning guidance to support electric vehicle charging infrastructure.

Secretary of State was originally the title given to the two officials who conducted the Royal Correspondence under Elizabeth I. Now it is the title held by some of the more important Government Ministers, for example the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs.
