To ask His Majesty's Government what plans they have, if any, to send letters to local authorities emphasising the importance of addressing climate change in all planning decisions.

The Government has made clear in the National Planning Policy Framework that the planning system should support the transition to a low carbon future in a changing climate. The Framework is a material consideration in planning decisions. The Government has committed in the Net Zero Strategy to review national planning policy to make sure it contributes to climate change mitigation and adaptation as fully as possible. We recognise that local authorities can, and do, play an essential role in driving local climate action and we are working closely with them to provide support to help them contribute to delivering net zero.
