To ask the Secretary of State for Education, how many children were in local authority care in each of the last five years.

The number of children in local authority care is published annually. Information for the 2022 reporting year will be published in November 2022.

Secretary of State was originally the title given to the two officials who conducted the Royal Correspondence under Elizabeth I. Now it is the title held by some of the more important Government Ministers, for example the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs.
