To ask the Secretary of State for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy, if he will take steps to suspend the use of gas in all new (a) residential and (b) commercial developments.

From 2025, the Government anticipates that heat pumps and heat networks will become the primary heating technologies for new residential and commercial developments, under the Future Homes Standard and the Future Buildings Standard respectively.

The Government also committed in the 2020 Energy White Paper to consult on whether it is appropriate to end gas grid connections to new homes being built from 2025, in favour of clean energy alternatives.
