To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer, if he will meet with the Wine and Spirit Trade Association in advance of the publication of a draft bill which would seek to introduce a new alcohol duty system.

To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer, what assessment he has made of the (a) administrative burden and (b) financial cost to wine and fortified wine (i) importers, (ii) distributors and (iii) wholesalers of the proposed new alcohol duty system.

To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer, if he will make an assessment of the potential merits of providing (a) financial and (b) other support packages to wine and spirit (i) producers, (ii) importers and (iii) distributors in the context of the costs associated with purchasing and administering new IT and accounting systems required under the plans to reform the alcohol duty system.

Since the start of the alcohol duty review consultation, my officials and I have had meetings with wine producers, importers, distributors and trade bodies, including the Wine and Spirit Trade Association, to understand the implications of the new alcohol duty system for their sector. The Government’s response to the consultation will be published in due course.
