To ask the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, if he will publish details of the demands made on NHS primary care treatment for people diagnosed with covid-19 in respect of (a) hospital admissions, (b) average hospital stay as in-patients and (c) cost of treatment since March 2020.
NHS Digital hold data on hospital admissions and mean length of hospital stay for those with a primary diagnosis of COVID-19, for the period March 2020 to August 2021. The data is shown in the attached table.
NHS England and NHS Improvement are the official source of statistics on COVID-19 related hospital activity. They publish a weekly dataset of COVID-19 hospital admissions and bed occupancy. The data contains information on total reported COVID-19 admissions to hospital and number of beds occupied by COVID-19 patients, split by region of England. This dataset is available at the following link.
The Department is not able to provide individual costs or estimates for a specific illness due to the number of factors involved, including the variety of clinical work associated with COVID-19 and other factors such as Long COVID.
