Department for Transport written question – answered on 8th October 2020.
To ask the Secretary of State for Transport, what steps he is taking to encourage people to switch to more sustainable transport; and if he will introduce a scrappage scheme to remove the most polluting vehicles from use.
In February the Prime Minister announced £5 billion of funding for investment in local buses and cycling and walking infrastructure – £250 million of which was made available in 2020/21 for pop-up bike lanes, with protected space for cycling, wider pavements, safer junctions, and cycle and bus-only corridors – and we are accelerating the transition to zero emission vehicles, with around £2.5bn? funding for plug-in vehicle grants and charging infrastructure.
The Government has no plans at this stage to introduce a vehicle scrappage scheme.
