To ask the Secretary of State for Housing, Communities and Local Government, what estimate he has made of the number of leasehold flats in buildings that do not have an EWS1 certificate.

The EWS1 form was introduced by the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) to assist in valuation of high-rise residential buildings for mortgage purposes, and so the Department does not hold this information. EWS1 assessments are not commissioned by the department but are requested from building owners by some lenders.
