Treasury written question – answered at on 16 September 2020.
To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer, what steps he has taken to prevent tax avoidance by (a) corporations and (b) individuals.
The Government is committed to tackling tax avoidance and evasion at all levels in order to ensure that everyone, no matter who they are, pays the right amount of tax at the right time.
Since 2010 the Government has taken significant action, including introducing over 120 new measures tackling tax avoidance, evasion and other forms of non-compliance. This action has secured and protected over £220 billion that would have otherwise gone unpaid, helping to reduce the avoidance tax gap from £3.7 billion in 2005 to 2006 to £1.7 billion in 2018 to 2019.
