To ask the Secretary of State for Defence, prior to his Department accepting the Home Office’s request for military assistance in the English Channel, what assessment his Department conducted of the compatibility of that request with his Department's strategic objectives.

Responsibility for security and integrity of the UKs borders resides with the Home Office and Border Force. Support provided to other Government departments is done so against set principles that guide the provision of Defence support. Support to the Civil Authorities in this instance was provided in support of wider Defence activities.
