To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer, what steps the Government is taking to help ensure that businesses do mot use support from the Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme to fund the staff notice pay.

To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer, whether he intends to impose sanctions on businesses found to be using support from the Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme to fund staff notice pay.

Under the Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme, an employer can claim for a furloughed employee who is serving a statutory notice period. However, grants cannot be used to substitute for redundancy payments. HMRC will continue to monitor businesses after the scheme has closed.
