Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government written question – answered at on 30 March 2020.
To ask Her Majesty's Government what plans they have, if any, to issue a rent break to tenants affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.
On 18 March, we announced a radical package of measures to protect renters and landlords affected by coronavirus. Emergency legislation has been taken forward as an urgent priority so that landlords will not be able to start proceedings to evict tenants for at least a three-month period. As a result of these measures, no renters in private or social accommodation need to be concerned about the threat of eviction. As such, the Government does not believe a ‘rent holiday’ is necessary at this stage.
