To ask the Secretary of State for Transport, what steps his Department is taking to support (a) local authorities and (b) communities to implement (i) walking and (ii) cycling strategies.

The Department has provided a £2 million programme of support to enable 46 local authorities to prepare Local Cycling and Walking Infrastructure Plans (LCWIPs). The Department is also working with the sector to develop further support for authorities on scheme development. Following the Prime Minister's announcement on 11 February, the Government will provide further funding support to local authorities to deliver new cycling and waking schemes that have been prioritised in LCWIPs.
