To ask the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, how many women were diagnosed with meningitis in the last five years.
Public Health England (PHE) collects data on laboratory confirmed cases of invasive meningococcal disease (IMD) in England which is caused by the Neisseria meningitidis bacteria and is a major cause of bacterial meningitis and septicaemia. The number of laboratory confirmed cases of IMD in England in the last five years is available in the following table. The overall risk of invasive meningococcal disease is similar in men and women. PHE does not publish this data breakdown by gender.
