To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs, if he will discuss the importance of the Diego Garcia military base with his US counterpart at the forthcoming NATO summit in December 2019.

The details of meetings for the NATO summit have yet to be finalised. The joint United Kingdom-US defence facility on BIOT is the result of a uniquely close and active defence and security partnership between two long-standing allies. In a region facing growing threats from state and non-state actors, it helps keep people in Britain and around the world safe from some of the most challenging threats to international peace and security.

Secretary of State

Secretary of State was originally the title given to the two officials who conducted the Royal Correspondence under Elizabeth I. Now it is the title held by some of the more important Government Ministers, for example the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs.
