To ask the Secretary of State for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy, pursuant to the answer of 8 April 2019 to Question 240591 on Energy: storage, when the Government plans to amend the Electricity Act 1989 to define electricity storage as a distinct subset of generation.

In our 2017 Smart Systems and Flexibility Plan and 2018 Progress Update, the Government committed to amend the Electricity Act 1989 to define electricity storage as a distinct subset of generation. We will do this as soon as parliamentary time allows. This is an important measure to improve regulatory clarity for electricity storage, and one that we will honour.
