To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs, what representations he has made to his counterpart in Iran on the sentencing of Nasrin Sotoudeh.

On 12 March the Foreign Secretary publicly shared his concerns about the sentencing of Nasrin Sotoudeh. We regularly raise the issue of human rights with the Iranian Government at all levels, and urge them to cease the harassment and arbitrary detention of all human rights defenders.

Secretary of State was originally the title given to the two officials who conducted the Royal Correspondence under Elizabeth I. Now it is the title held by some of the more important Government Ministers, for example the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs.
