To ask the Secretary of State for Transport, pursuant to the Answer of 17 December to Question 201123 on the South Eastern Rail Franchise, what steps he is taking to ensure that there will not be a delay in the new operator taking over in April 2019.

Officials at my Department are working to deliver the best outcome for passengers and the taxpayer. I have asked them to balance the importance of delivering the competition programme in a timely manner, alongside ensuring the successor franchisee will deliver the greatest benefits for passengers and taxpayers having been identified through the most robust process possible.
