Department for Education written question – answered at on 13 December 2018.
To ask the Secretary of State for Education, what steps the Government is taking to ensure that the UK workforce can be upskilled or retrained in the event that their profession is adversely affected by the fourth industrial revolution.
Automation and technological change is expected to have a significant impact on the jobs market over the next 10 to 20 years, bringing new challenges and opportunities. The National Retraining Scheme, which was announced in the Autumn Budget 2017, is an ambitious and far-reaching programme focussed on adult retraining. The scheme will help those who are most at risk and in precarious employment to gain the skills that they need to thrive as the economy changes.
