To ask the Secretary of State for Transport, how many seafarer (a) Ratings and (b) Officers working in the UK shipping industry are employed by recruitment and placement agencies registered outside the UK.

We do not collect those statistics.

The recruitment and placement of seafarers on UK registered vessels must comply with the requirements set down in the Merchant Shipping (Maritime Labour Convention) (Minimum Requirements for Seafarers etc.) Regulations 2014 and this covers where the recruitment and placement may occur outside the UK.
