We are concerned that false information on social media platforms is stoking longstanding rivalries and fuelling intercommunal violence across multiple states of Nigeria. False reports and images of gruesome attacks, often with no link to Nigeria, are regularly circulated as evidence of intercommunal violence, prompting reprisal attacks.

We are working with international partners to support the Nigerian government in their strategic response, and encouraging them to address the complex causes of the violence.
