Foreign and Commonwealth Office written question – answered at on 20 November 2018.
To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs, what assessment he has made of the number of members of (a) the High Negotiations Committee, (b) the Syrian Democratic Council, (c) the Kurdish National Council, (d) Local Coordination Committees, (e) Local councils and (f) other Syrian opposition groups that will be represented on the proposed Constitutional Committee in Syria.
It is for the UN Special Envoy for Syria, Staffan De Mistura, to decide on representation on the Constitutional Committee. A number of opposition groups, including the Syrian Negotiations Commission, have submitted candidates for inclusion in the Committee, and the Special Envoy stated in his briefing to the UN Security Council last month that agreement on the opposition list of fifty names had been reached.
