To ask the Secretary of State for Education, with reference to paragraph 5.20 of Budget 2018, how much of the £400 million will be allocated to to maintained nursery schools.

We are allocating an additional £400 million capital funding to schools in 2018–19. This funding is in addition to the £1.4 billion of condition allocations already provided this year to those responsible for maintaining school buildings. This supports our priority of ensuring the school estate is well maintained and helps provide a high-quality education.

I can confirm that maintained nursery schools will benefit from the funding, along with primary and secondary schools, academies and free schools, non-maintained special schools, pupil referral units, and sixth-form colleges. It will also be allocated to those specialist post-16 institutions that have eligible state-funded pupils.

We plan to publish a ready reckoner by December, so that schools can estimate their allocations. We expect to publish the final allocations in the new year.
