Northern Ireland Office written question – answered at on 1 November 2018.
To ask the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland, if he will discuss with the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care the potential merits of introducing the HPV vaccination programme for boys in Northern Ireland.
Health is a devolved matter in Northern Ireland. The honourable Member may find it useful to refer to the answer I gave on 29 October which confirms that preparatory work is underway within the Department of Health in Northern Ireland to allow for the introduction of HPV to boys in Northern Ireland, if and when such a decision is taken by a Health Minister in Northern Ireland. This approach reflects the fact that health policy is devolved in Northern Ireland and so the decision whether to introduce the HPV vaccine for boys is one for Northern Ireland Ministers to take.
