To ask the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, what guidance his Department has issued to (a) NHS Trusts and (b) Care Commissioning Groups on consulting local communities on the location of drug and alcohol recovery and treatment centres.

It is for local authorities to determine the location of drug and alcohol recovery and treatment centres based on specific local needs. This requires that local communities are consulted on as part of an application for a new drug and alcohol treatment service. The Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government’s Planning Portal is the home for all current guidance, which is available at the following link:

Public Health England provides annual needs assessment data and information on evidence-based interventions for local authority commissioners to use when planning new drug and alcohol treatment services.
