To ask the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, if he will make an assessment of the cost to the public purse of the abolition of prescription charges.

The Department has no plans to review prescription charges. In the financial year 2016/17, the latest data available, prescription charge income generated £554.9 million of revenue for the National Health Service which played a key role in contributing to the cost of providing services.
