To ask the Secretary of State for Transport, what steps he is taking to support the growth and development of the bikeshare sector.
Jesse Norman
Parliamentary Under-Secretary (Department for Transport)
The Government agrees that bike-share schemes have the potential to deliver many benefits, provided they are introduced and managed responsibly. It is for local authorities rather than central Government to determine whether, and if so how, to promote bike-share schemes in their areas. The Government’s overall plans to increase cycling and walking, together with a summary of the available funding, are set out in the statutory Cycling and Walking Investment Strategy published in April 2017.

Secretary of State was originally the title given to the two officials who conducted the Royal Correspondence under Elizabeth I. Now it is the title held by some of the more important Government Ministers, for example the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs.
