To ask the Secretary of State for Transport, what recent assessment he has made of the levels of uptake for Cycle to Work Scheme; and what steps he is taking to encourage uptake of that scheme.

The Government has not undertaken any detailed assessment of the levels of uptake of the Cycle to Work Scheme. Bicycles provided under the cycle to work scheme are tax exempt, and so no data is reported to Her Majesty’s Revenue and Customs.
The Department for Transport is currently in the process of updating the Cycle to Work Scheme guidance, and plans to make a further announcement later in the year.

Secretary of State was originally the title given to the two officials who conducted the Royal Correspondence under Elizabeth I. Now it is the title held by some of the more important Government Ministers, for example the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs.
