Treasury written question – answered on 4th September 2018.
To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer, what estimate his Department has made of the cost to the public purse on not collecting VAT at UK ports after the UK leaves the EU.
After the UK leaves the EU, goods brought into the UK from the EU and non-EU countries will continue to be subject to VAT as they are now. HM Revenue and Customs will continue to promote compliance and tackle avoidance and evasion to support a level and competitive playing field for law abiding UK businesses.
