To ask the Secretary of State for Defence, what assessment the Government has made of the potential explosive risk from the US store of ammunition and other explosives on (a) the island of Diego Garcia and (b) in ships in the lagoon.

There are well established procedures for calculating explosive safety distances and mitigating the risk associated. There are more anchorages than ships in the lagoon and they are distributed according to these calculations. The explosive arc of these ships do not impact on any inhabited areas.
