To ask the Secretary of State for Housing, Communities and Local Government, how many (a) 16 to 24 year old and (b) 25 to 30 year old homeless people have been temporarily housed in bed and breakfast accommodation by their local authority in each of the last five years.

Time spent in temporary accommodation means people are getting help and means people have a roof over their head.

MHCLG publishes regular statistics on rough sleeping, statutory homelessness, temporary accommodation and homelessness prevention and relief. These are published at national, London and local authority level. The latest statistics can be found at: https://www.gov.uk/government/collections/homelessness-statistics.

The Department doesn’t currently hold data on the numbers of people who have been temporarily housed in bed and breakfast accommodation by age cohort.

We are, however, overhauling the statutory homelessness data collection alongside the introduction of the Homelessness Reduction Act, and the data you have requested will be collected from April 2018.
