To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department, with reference to his speech to the Police Federation on 23 May 2018, whether police numbers have been stable since 2015.
Since the 2015 Spending Review police numbers have been broadly stable.
The Police Workforce at March 2016 was 200,922 compared to 198,388 in September 2017 (-1.2%). However, in the 12 months between September 2016 and 2017 the police workforce increased by 180 (0.1%).
Most Police and Crime Commissioners have set out plans to either protect or increase frontline policing following the 2018-19 police funding settlement.
