To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department, on how many occasions her Department paid compensation to a victim of wrongful detention and at what total cost in each of the last five years.

The information is not held centrally and could only be obtained at disproportionate cost.

The Home Office does not record ‘wrongful detention’ as a payment type. It is only unlawful detention compensation which is reported in the Home Office Annual Report and Accounts. The cost of unlawful detention for FYs 2012/13 onwards are included in the table below:
