Indonesian President Joko Widodo made a commitment in May 2015 that foreign journalists would be allowed to visit Papua and West Papua. Nevertheless, we continue to receive reports that journalists face difficulties in securing visas and restrictions on free reporting. In January of this year, Lord Ahmad raised his concern on this issue with the Indonesian Ambassador to London and we submitted an advanced question to Indonesia on this ahead of their Universal Periodic Review at the Human Rights Council in May 2017.
